RE: COmpartment door locks

We bought new barrel locks at a locksmith for under $5 each, then spent $50 to have a unique key made for the locks. You can't open them with any normal RV key, but as the locksmith explained they can be opened in about 10 seconds with the knowledge and a pick.

RE: Busted hydraulic ram (piston) in Black Hills, SD

There 8 RV service centers in the Rapid City phone book. Try Mid-States 866-531-6883. Northern Hills Homes & RV 800-622-4579. High Plains Trailer sales 888-845-8525. I don't know anything about any of them. I doubt that you will find a machine shop that will rebuild the ram in a timley fashion. Oil well business comes first and pays more. Good luck
Call the factory and ask the to ship part.

RE: where to store the second spare

Back in the days of our pickup camper I made a carrier that attached to the front of the truck that held 2 tires. It was made of 2X2 square tubing 3/8" thick. Wheels were held on by studs and locking lug nuts. It didn't adversely effect the air flow to the radiator.

RE: Goodyear G614RST, LT235/85R16

Check the date of manufacture. Are they old tires? I don't know of any replacement. I've been using these tires for about 8 years. I replace them every 3 to 4 years reguardless of mileage. Goodyear has the reputation of paying for repairs, unlike Michelin which claims that they don't have any bad tires. You are correct in keeping the pressure between 105 & 110.

RE: stressed

Try calling the factory for a recommendation. Ask insurance company for recommendations. Do you have fulltimers insurance if so they should pay a certain amount for temporary housing. Ours pays up to $1500 for "vacation interruption. Cover damage to prevent water damage.

RE: Need quick reply! Leaving cup of bleach in water tank OK???

Why can't you just empty the fresh water tank, you don't need a dump station for that. We always travel with about 30 gal of fresh water. When we pull into a FHU site the first thing I do is drain the fresh water tank.

Bagpipe music played at maximum volume will usually do it. At least if someone parks close to you, they will be Gaelic types!
Only at sunrise in the fog:) and only a lone piper no drums.

RE: What can I do to improve the taste of our water & ice?

Use a carbon filter to improve taste. Also use a Brita filter to fill the ice trays. I am running 3 filters in upstate NY.

RE: first time workamper experience

That's why you have wheels --- leave. We have been work camping on and off for 9 years. We have left twice because of misrepresentation by management. We are trying our 3rd and maybe final KOA, if it doesn't work we are done with KOA. With the price of fuel and the apparent shortage of work campers (we have multiple offers) we can afford to be choosy.

RE: Load E tires with 65 PSI Rims?

If your running Goodyear 614 G rated tires, Goodyear advises not to run less then 105 lbs. reguardless of load. They claim sidewalls will heat up and could fail. CORRECTION that is a 'G' rated tire. couldn't get on after post to correct it.

I think he asked about "essential" tools. It looks like you got the whole shop there!
I'm full time so I need everything. BTW that's only a partial list of what's in the truck. The small stuff that you need every day is in the 5'er.:B

RE: What tools are essential?

It all depends on what you want to be prepared for. When we got hit with 4" hail I had the equiptment to patch the roof until we got to the factory, 8 months later. I carry a complete set of sockets from 1/4" drive to 3/4" drive. I have a circular saw, a scroll saw, 3 Dremels, 2 routers, a 6 ton & a 20 ton bottle jack. I also carry spare parts for almost everything, electrical wire, plumbing fittings, spare lights, spare coax & connections. Spare telephone wire and connection which are used for communications between the various electical things in the RV. I also have a complete set of drills, number, fractional and some letter. I carry 2 drills, a drill press, a couple of vices and a railroad track that I use as an anvil. Oh yeah 15 assorted pairs of vice grips and a set of open end wrenches. Scrap sheets of aluminum, stainless steel, plywood and about 20 lbs of fasteners. Don't tell my wife that I carry this much and more.:o:B

My dealer said to NEVER use blocks under the landing legs
Whenever I can I put 9" aluminium stands under my front jacks, they have a 1' sq and this distributes the weight and prevents sinking. My pin weight is 5500 lbs and the 5er weights 23000. Also as mentioned I only have to extend the legs about 4".

RE: 30 amp cable w/50 amp plug

Buy an adapter, a short 1' cable available at most camping stores for about $50. If you try to make it the plug alone will cost more.

RE: Remodeling help

Faucets are available from Home Depot & Lowe's. Try a furniture store that handles Steel Case or Lazyboy. They will probably have to order the sofa-sleeper. We are also looking and the store wants measurements to special order.
